The Department of Psychology, Kaveri College of Arts, Science and Commerce, Pune, organised an awareness workshop titled ‘Ekda Boluya’ (Let’s Talk) on 9th Sep 2026 to observe World Suicide Prevention Day. The session was facilitated by Dr. Meetali More, subject expert and Founder of Gurukey Solutions. The workshop aimed to create awareness about suicide prevention, emotional well-being and the importance of offering timely support to individuals experiencing emotional distress. Dr. More highlighted that suicide prevention is a collective responsibility that requires empathy, understanding, compassionate listening and appropriate intervention.
During the interactive session, student participants were guided on recognising warning signs such as social withdrawal, persistent sadness, sudden mood changes, hopelessness and loss of interest in daily activities. The importance of non-judgmental listening and providing a safe space for individuals to express their feelings was also emphasised. An interesting activity introduced during the workshop was the ‘Botheration Chit’, which encouraged participants to write down their concerns, identify their emotions and recognise trusted individuals they could approach for support. The resource person also explained the importance of direct and indirect intervention, regular follow-ups and seeking professional help in situations of immediate concern.
The key takeaways of the workshop were summarised through five important steps: NOTICE, LISTEN, CONNECT, REACH OUT and BE THERE, encouraging participants to recognise changes, listen without judgment, connect individuals with trusted support systems and offer continued care.Overall, the ‘Ekda Boluya’ workshop was an informative and meaningful initiative that highlighted the importance of open conversations, empathy and timely support in suicide prevention. It reinforced the message that a simple conversation and a compassionate approach can make a significant difference in someone’s life.
