As part of the National Mathematics Day celebration, commemorating the Birth Anniversary of the eminent Indian Mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan, the Department of BSc. Computer Science organized a series of academically enriching activities aimed at strengthening conceptual understanding and promoting the relevance of mathematics in contemporary and interdisciplinary applications.
The programme commenced with the felicitation of the Guest Speaker, Mr. Krishnant Masalkar, Assistant Professor, Garware College, Pune. He was formally honoured by Principal Dr. Muckta Karmarkar, as a token of appreciation for his valuable contribution to the field of mathematics and academic engagement.
The key academic highlight of the celebration was the expert lecture on “Gradient Descent Method – An Essential Optimization Algorithm Used in Machine Learning.” Mr. Masalkar delivered a comprehensive and engaging session, elucidating the mathematical foundations underlying optimization algorithms widely used in Machine Learning and Data Science. The lecture effectively bridged theoretical mathematics with real-world computational applications, thereby enhancing students’ analytical thinking and awareness of emerging technological domains. The session witnessed enthusiastic participation and was highly appreciated for its academic depth and practical relevance.
Subsequently, the Project Exhibition Inauguration Ceremony was conducted. The exhibition was formally inaugurated by Mr. Krishnant Masalkar in the presence of Principal Dr. Muckta Karmarkar, Vice Principal Dr. Anand Buddhikot , IQAC Head Mrs. Chitra Alavani, and Coordinator, B.Sc. Computer Science Mr. Nilesh Nemade. Their esteemed presence added academic value to the event and served as a source of motivation and encouragement for the participating students.
more than 40 projects were exhibited, demonstrating students’ creativity, problem-solving ability, analytical skills, and practical application of mathematical concepts. The exhibition also witnessed participation from students of the Gifted Education School, fostering academic interaction beyond the institution. Faculty members from various departments visited the exhibition and commended the students for their innovative approach and interdisciplinary perspectives.
The programme was further enriched by the gracious presence of Hon. Secretary Mrs. Malati Kalmadi, whose interaction with students and words of encouragement significantly boosted their morale. Her visit reaffirmed the institution’s commitment towards academic excellence, holistic development, and quality enhancement.
Overall, the National Mathematics Day celebration was a resounding success, effectively achieving its objectives of promoting mathematical thinking, encouraging interdisciplinary learning, and sensitizing students to the application of mathematics in real-world and emerging technological contexts. The programme contributed meaningfully to students’ academic enrichment and professional preparedness.
The event was successfully planned and executed by the mathematics faculty members Mr. Tejas Sonawane and Ms. Snehal Thete, with active coordination and institutional support. The programme was organized under the guidance of the Principal, Vice Principal and Coordinator whose leadership ensured systematic planning, academic relevance, quality execution, and smooth conduct of all activities associated with the National Mathematics Day celebration.
