The Department of Physical Education & Sports, Kaveri College of Arts, Science and Commerce, Pune, organized the National Sports Day Celebration 2026 under the theme “DHANURVIDYA – The Legacy of Indian Archery” on 29th and 31st August 2026. The initiative aimed to introduce students to India’s traditional sporting heritage and connect the Indian Knowledge System (IKS) with modern sports education through experiential learning.
The programme was inaugurated on 29th August 2026 by Mrs. Radhika Sharma, Joint Treasurer, Kannada Sangha, Pune, in the presence of Dr. Mukta Karmarkar, Principal; Dr. Anand Budhikot, Vice-Principal; Dr. Rohit Tambe, Organiser and Director of Physical Education & Sports; faculty members, staff, students, parents, and invited guests.
The two-day initiative featured a professional archery equipment exhibition, an educational display on the evolution of archery from ancient traditions to modern competitive sports, and a live archery experience. Students were introduced to Olympic recurve bows, compound bows, arrows, targets, and other professional equipment. The 20-metre live archery experience provided students with an opportunity to experience the sport firsthand under guidance, understand basic shooting techniques, and appreciate the importance of safety and discipline.
More than 1,200 students from Kaveri College, Dr. Kalmadi Shamarao High School and Junior College, Seva Sadan, and Abhinav School participated in the programme, along with parents. The activities promoted awareness of Dhanurvidya and modern archery while highlighting the importance of concentration, balance, precision, patience, and self-control.
The celebration successfully combined India’s sporting heritage with contemporary sports education and hands-on learning. It encouraged students to explore new sporting disciplines and understand the role of sports in physical and mental development. The initiative reflected the college’s commitment to promoting sports awareness, traditional knowledge, and holistic student development.
