The National Service Scheme (NSS) unit of Kannada Sangha Pune’s Kaveri College of Arts, Science and Commerce organized a Cleanliness Drive at Parvati Hill, Pune on 1st October 2025 as part of the nationwide “Swachhata Hi Seva” Campaign, commemorating the 156th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.
On this occasion, NSS Program Officer Mr. Nilesh Nemade addressed the students, reminding them of Gandhi’s timeless values of truth, non-violence, and simplicity. He emphasized their continuing relevance in today’s era of conflicts, climate challenges, and social divides. Gandhi Jayanti, he noted, inspires sustainable living, peaceful coexistence, and inclusive development—guiding humanity towards harmony and moral progress.
The drive was undertaken to clean one of Pune’s most significant cultural and spiritual landmarks, renowned for its temples and panoramic views. NSS Leader Mr. Ved Walbhojkar motivated the volunteers by highlighting the importance of cleanliness in daily life and urging them to contribute actively to a healthier environment.
A total of 98 NSS volunteers enthusiastically participated in the activity. They cleaned the entire stretch of the hill, collecting litter, dry leaves, and plastic waste. The waste was carefully segregated into biodegradable and non-biodegradable categories for proper disposal. Volunteers also interacted with visitors and residents, spreading awareness about the need to maintain cleanliness in public spaces.
The initiative not only enhanced the beauty of Parvati Hill but also fostered in the volunteers a deeper sense of social responsibility and environmental awareness. The drive truly reflected the NSS motto—“Not Me, But You.”
The sincere efforts of the NSS unit and its volunteers were appreciated by Dr. Muckta Karmarkar, Principal, and Dr. Anand Buddhikot, Vice- Principal. The event was successfully organized under the able guidance of NSS Program Officer Mr. Nilesh Nemade.
