Tree Plantation Activity Conducted by NSS Unit of Kaveri College

The National Service Scheme (NSS) Unit of Kannada Sangha’s Kaveri College of Arts, Science and Commerce, Pune, organized a Tree Plantation Drive on 12 July 2026 at Akole, Tal. Mulshi, Dist. Pune, with the objective of promoting environmental conservation, increasing green cover, and encouraging students to actively participate in sustainable environmental practices. The programme was conducted under the guidance of the Principal, Dr. Muckta Karmarkar. The activity was coordinated by Mr. Nilesh Nemade, NSS Programme Officer, with active support from Prof. Tejas Sonawane, Assistant Professor, Mr. Milind Patil, and Mrs. Jyoti Satpute. The programme commenced with an orientation session highlighting the importance of trees in maintaining ecological balance, preserving biodiversity, reducing pollution, preventing soil erosion, and mitigating the effects of climate change. The faculty members motivated the volunteers to understand their responsibility towards nature and encouraged them to actively participate in environmental conservation initiatives.

The NSS volunteers enthusiastically dug pits at suitable locations and carefully planted various indigenous and environmentally beneficial tree species, including Karanj, Silver Oak, Chinch (Tamarind), Kaju (Cashew), and Bamboo. After planting the saplings, the volunteers thoroughly watered them and ensured that each plant was properly supported and protected to facilitate healthy growth. The volunteers worked with great dedication, enthusiasm, and teamwork throughout the activity, demonstrating their commitment towards environmental protection. They also learned the scientific methods of plantation, including proper spacing, depth of planting, and the importance of regular watering and maintenance for the long-term survival of the saplings.

The Tree Plantation Drive provided the students with valuable hands-on experience in environmental conservation and reinforced the importance of collective efforts in protecting natural resources. The activity not only enhanced their awareness of ecological issues but also instilled values of social responsibility, discipline, cooperation, and community service. The volunteers pledged to take care of the planted saplings and to continue participating in similar environmental initiatives in the future. The programme concluded successfully with a vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to the Principal, faculty members, NSS volunteers, and all those who contributed to the successful organization of the Tree Plantation Drive. The event served as a meaningful step towards creating a greener, healthier, and more sustainable environment while upholding the true spirit of the NSS motto, “Not Me But You.”
