The Department of Economics successfully organized Arthanomics, an economics-based festival aimed at simplifying economic concepts for students in an engaging and interactive manner. The fest was inaugurated in a traditional manner, reinforcing the cultural values of the institution. The event commenced with the lighting of the Samai and the offering of flowers to the idols, symbolizing wisdom and prosperity. This was followed by an insightful and motivating speech by Dr. Muckta Karmarkar, Principal , setting the tone for the festival. The host then briefed the attendees on the objectives and significance of Arthanomics. The primary aim of Arthanomics was to present economic concepts in a simplified and relatable manner, making them accessible to students from diverse academic backgrounds. The Arthanomics fest provided a dynamic platform for students to explore economic concepts in an interactive and engaging manner.
Day 01 – Monday, 3rd February 2025 – Event- Golden Era -Quiz
The first event of the festival was the Golden Era Quiz Competition, which tested participants’ knowledge of India’s historical economic prosperity. The competition included various question formats such as MCQs, Pictionary, and a rapid-fire round. The competition witnessed intense engagement, with two teams remaining in a tie until the final round. The winners of this competition were Saket Borkar, Ved Walbhojkar, and Om Gaikwad.
Day 01 – Monday, 3rd February 2025- Event- Poster Competition
The second event was a Poster Making Competition based on the theme of Socio-Economic factors from ancient to modern times. This activity encouraged students to creatively express their understanding of economic transitions over different periods. The combination of traditional inauguration, competitive events, and creative expression made the festival a holistic learning experience. The fest successfully achieved its objective of making economics comprehensible to all participants, fostering curiosity and deeper understanding among students. Winner of the competition was Ved Valbhojkar.
Day 02 – Tuesday, 4th February 2025-Event- The Great Economic Escape
The second day of Arthanomics was dedicated to the theme of International Economics, offering participants an immersive and thought-provoking experience. The highlight of the day was The Great Economic Escape Room, an innovative activity designed to challenge students’ economic reasoning and decision-making skills. The escape room revolved around a hypothetical country operating under an autarky model, where participants found themselves trapped and had to strategize their way out. To obtain a visa and leave the country, they were required to engage in an underground economy by purchasing commodities illegally, replicating real-world economic dilemmas and constraints. This engaging simulation aimed to provide students with insights into trade restrictions, market dynamics, and economic survival strategies.
The activity was conducted in two slots, each witnessing enthusiastic participation. An overwhelming number of students took part in the challenge, making it one of the most well-received events of the fest. The overwhelming response and competitive spirit showcased the participants’ keen interest in understanding economic principles through experiential learning. This successfully reinforced the festival’s objective of making economics accessible and engaging for students. By blending theoretical concepts with practical, game-based learning, the event fostered critical thinking and interactive learning, leaving a lasting impact on all attendees.
Day 03 – Wednesday, 5th February 2025 – Event – Vichar Shots
On Day 3, a debate under Arthanomics titled “विचार Shots” was conducted, with hosts Sharvari Joshi and Tanushri Nirmal leading the session. The debate featured discussions around the reasons for migration, examining whether financial stability is the sole driving factor or if other elements are at play.
The event was moderated by Tanushri Nirmal and Ketaki Dikay, who ensured a dynamic exchange of ideas between the two groups. One side argued that financial stability, higher wages, and better job opportunities abroad are the primary reasons for migration, while the other side pointed out factors like education, healthcare, work culture, safety, and socio-political concerns as significant motivators.
The debate showcased diverse perspectives on migration, reflecting a blend of economic, social, and personal considerations behind this global phenomenon.
Day 03 – Wednesday, 5th February 2025 – Event- Chai pe Charcha
On the final day of Arthanomics, an informal group discussion titled Chai pe Charcha was moderated by Sharvari Joshi, bringing together students, teachers, volunteers, and organizers to reflect on the festival’s three-day journey. The conversation explored a wide range of topics, including India’s Mission 2047, the nation’s ancient economy, and the lost heritage of institutions like Takshila and Nalanda Universities. Participants also discussed the role of government policies—fiscal and monetary—in ensuring economic stability and the growing influence of India’s youth in shaping the future.
Other major points included India’s potential in startups, its global image, and the importance of healthcare, particularly medical tourism. The group also noted India’s resilient economic performance during the Covid-19 pandemic and the need for government expenditure on social services. The discussion concluded with optimism, recognizing that India has the potential to rebuild its lost heritage and become a developed nation through innovation and youth-driven growth.
The Arthanomics Fest received huge response from students and volunteers, to make the event successfully. Dr. Pooja Ambole, BA-Coordinator guided and encouraged students for this fest.
