13th Dr.Shamarao Kalmadi Memorial National Level Elocution Competition- 2023 was conducted on 16th September 2023. The competition started with the inauguration ceremony at the hands of Smt. Indira Salian, Vice President, Kannada Sangha- and Mr. Sudhakar Rao, Trustee, Kannada Sagha, Pune. Principal Dr. Ashok Agrawal and Vice Principal Dr. Muckta Karmarkar, Head of debate and Elocution committee Mrs Soniya Kumbhojkar, were present on dice. Mrs Soniya Kumbhojkar explained the topics and the rules of the competition. Dr. Agrawal, while welcoming the participants, spoke about the uniqueness of Kaveri in organizing various events. Mr. Sudhakar Rao congratulated the team for bringing out novelty and variety in choosing the topics. Ojaswee Pimpalkar, a student of BBA(IB) compered, and Mrs. Chaithra Uchil proposed vote of thanks.
The first part of the competition commenced shortly after the inauguration. The competition was judged by – Dr. Sonali Joshi, Symbiosis College and Dr. Jayant Gadekar, Symbiosis College. The theme for this year was ‘Diversity”. With respect to theme, students were given the following topics-
- Sports and Employability
- NEP 2020 and the Youth
- Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar- A Social Inspiration
- India’s contribution in Science and Technology
- National Integrity and Saints.
Each Student was allotted seven minutes for their speech. Students were allowed to present in English, Hindi or Marathi. Participants presented their views with vigor and enthusiasm.
An Impromptu Competition was conducted after the main competition.15 entries were registered on a first-come-first- serve basis. Participants were then provided with a bowl of chits consisting of a variety of zesty topics. Each participant was given a two-minute slot to contemplate and then a further two minute slot to present their views. This was a test of the student’s clarity of thought and oratorical skills and they performed exceedingly well.
Veteran actor and director Mr. Madhav Vaze, of fame ‘Shyamchi Aai’ was invited as a chief guest for the prize distribution Ceremony. Kannada Sangha Pune’s Vice president Mrs. Indira Salian and Mr. Chandrahas Shetty along with the Principal Dr. Ashok Agrawal and Vice Principal Dr. Muckta Karmarkar were present for the event. Mr.Vaze guided the participants about the non- verbal aspects of discourse. He highlighted the importance of forming impressions from experiences in the surroundings to improve writing. The judges gave the students some vital pointers to make their performance in the elocution more effective. Dr. Joshi put forth her observations about finding the right tone and pitch during oratory. Dr. Gadekar, focused on the spirit of competition.
The dignitaries then presented the awards to the prize winners.

The programme ended with a photo session of the prize winners along with the dignitaries.
The registration concluded with an overwhelming response of 41 participants from colleges across Pune, Ahmednagar, Satara, Aurangabad, Kolhapur, Raigad and Thane.
