15th Dr. Shamarao Kalmadi Memorial State-Level Elocution Competition was held on Saturday, 13th September 2025, at Kaveri College of Arts, Science and Commerce, Pune. The competition was inaugurated in the presence of Mrs. Radhika Sharma, Joint Treasurer, Kannada Sangha, Dr. Muckta Karmarkar, Principal, Kaveri College, Dr. Anand Buddhikot, Vice-Principal, Kaveri College, Mrs. Chitra Alavani, IQAC Head and Dr. Deepa Sathe, Convenor of the Organizing Committee. Convenor, Dr. Deepa Sathe warmly greeted the gathering and highlighted the objectives of the competition. Dr. Muckta Karmarkar in her welcome address, shared words of encouragement and the achievements of the college in the field of sports and academics. Mrs. Radhika Sharma, gave the inception of Kannada Sangha, the role of critical thinking and idea exchange in society, and formally declared the competition is open.

- The Gig Economy: A Double-Edged Sword गिग अर्थव्यवस्था: दुधारी तलवार’
For this competition, more than 40 participants from reputed universities and colleges across Maharashtra including Pune, Mumbai, Nashik, and Nagpur marked their presence. The participants were given the freedom to choose their medium of expression, either in English or Marathi. Total 39 participants participated in the competition, 18 participants spoke in English and 21 participants spoke in Marathi. An Impromptu Competition was announced after the main competition. In this competition students are supposed to talk on the impromptu topic given to them for 2 minutes.
The Prize Distribution ceremony was held in the presence of Mrs. Indira Salian, Vice-President, Kannada Sangha Pune, Dr. Narayan Hegde, Vice-President, Kannada Sangha Pune, and Ms. Sumathi Srinivasan, Head Admin KGI. Chief Guest, Dr. Varsha Toradmal, Head, Marathi Department, Abasaheb Garware College, Pune, presented awards to the winners.In her address, she appreciated Kaveri College for organizing the competition and for the excellent selection of topics.In her speech while interacting with the students, she shared the the triad guiding mantra —purity of intention, purity of language, and purity of study, as essentials for becoming a good oriator. She emphasized that to be a great orator, one must first be a good listener and continue the practice with dedication. She also advised the students to read Swami Vidyanand’s book The Pioneering Light.
Eminent lawyer Mr. Satish Deshpande and Dr. Vedant Kulkarni were the judges for the competition. Dr. Vedant Kulkarni shared valuable tips on the art of public speaking with the participants, inspiring them as future orators. The programme concluded with participants feedback and appreciation from the participants. Certificate of participation was given to Every participant.
Dr. Deepa Sathe, Convenor of the Organizing Committee, presented an overview of the competition and extended a vote of thanks to all present. The programme was compered by Prof. Shreya Ingalagi.
