Commerce Horizon 2024-25 : “Fraud Files” Competition
The “Fraud Files” competition, organized by the Department of Commerce at Kaveri College of Arts, Science, and Commerce, Pune, was held on 25th February 2025 (Tuesday) as part of the Commerce Horizon 2025 festival. The event took place from 9.00 AM to 11:00 AM.
The event featured students presenting case studies on various high-profile financial scams, such as the DHFL scam, the Barings Bank case, the Chanda Kochhar case, and the Ketan Parekh scam. The participants used PowerPoint presentations to showcase their research and analysis. After each presentation, the audience and judges asked insightful questions, and the participants responded impressively, displaying their in-depth knowledge of the cases.
The competition was overseen by Ms. Swathy M (teacher in charge) and coordinated by Om Gaikwad, Soham Athavale, and Aditi Walimbe (Students In-Charge, FYBCom). A total of 12 participants took part in the competition, showcasing their excellent understanding of financial frauds.
Winners:
- First Prize (Rs. 750): Adarsh Shastri and Hrishikesh Pradhan (TYBCom) – Barings Bank Case, 1995
- Second Prize (Rs. 500): Om Keskar and Shubhrato Karmarkar (SYBCom) .
- Third Prize: Vaishnavi Pillai and Rutuja Lihine.
- Consolidated Prize: Karishma Bihani.
This competition was a great success highlighting the importance of understanding financial frauds in today’s business world and also reminded us of the importance of financial literacy in today’s world.
Commerce Horizon 2024-25 : Bulls VS Bears Competition
Kannada Sangha Pune’s Kaveri College of Arts, Science and Commerce, Pune had organized Commerce Horizon 2024 – 25 under the Department of Commerce which consisted of 6 different competitions on 24th and 25th February 2025. The last competition of the event was the Bulls VS Bears Competition on 25th February 2025, Tuesday, from 9:30 am to 2:00 pm.
This competition provided students with an exciting opportunity to engage in “Stock market simulation” and experience the dynamics of trading in a competitive environment.Prof. Prachi Ambulkar and Prof. Swanand Gore were the Teachers In-Charge for the competition.
The competition simulated real- world scenarios where students took on the roles of Bulls (Optimistic investors) and Bears (pessimistic investors) Participants were required to analyse market trends, predict stock movements, and execute buying or selling decisions within a set time frame of two hours.
Winners of the competition: Anurag Malwade from SYBCOM won the First Prize worth Rs. 750 and Om Keskar from SYBCOM won the Second Prize worth Rs. 500. Total 9 students had registered for the Bulls VS Bears Competition.
The competition was judged by the industry experts from the Prop-Trading Desk at Big Shorts and our TYBCOM Students: Mr.Vishwajeet Upadhye (Partner -Executive Role), Mr.Shrirang Kulkarni (Partner- Operations Role) and Mr.Om Gupte (Partner-Investments Role). Students Coordinators of the event were Adwait Deshpande and Rohan Alvandi both from FYBCOM.
