Career Guidance Session on Opportunities and Challenges of Chartered Accountancy Course
The ‘Career Guidance Session on Opportunities and Challenges of Chartered Accountancy Course’ was organised in association with Western India Regional Council of ICAI, Pune Branch. CA Sarvesh Mehendale was invited as a resource person for this lecture. He guided the students thoroughly about various opportunities and Challenges of Chartered Accountancy Course.
Virtual Lab Experiment on Virtual English and Communication
The Department of Commerce organised a Virtual Lab Experiment on Virtual English and Communication designed by Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati. The students from Second Year B.Com were given guidance in doing Business Communication Experiments Online. The students had many learnings from the experiments conducted virtually.
Guiding session on preparation of CA Foundation Exam 2022
CA Sayali Limaye facilitated for the Guiding session on preparation of CA Foundation Exam 2022’ on 12 November 2022. She explained on having the right mindset to perform better during the examination. Also, she advised to have regular practice of solving practical problems, mind maps on theory subjects and reading at intervals which can help the students to prepare well for the exam.
Guiding session on career in Company Secretary
A guiding session on career in Company Secretary was organized in association with The Institute of Company Secretaries of India(ICSI) on Nov 30, 2022. The speaker of this career guiding session was CS Kalyani Shirode. She guided the CS aspirants on the career opportunities of the Company Secretary Course.
Online National Mathematics Quiz
The Online National Mathematics Quiz was conducted on 22 December 2022 for the students of 11th and 12th std. Om Kulkarni (M.E. Society’s Higher Secondary School & Junior College), Amogh Bhosekar (Fergusson Junior College) and Tanishka Khanapurkar (Fergusson Junior College) won the first, second and third prize respectively. The prizes worth Rs.1500, Rs.1000 and Rs.500 and certificates were given to the prize winners respectively. Also, all participants were given the e-certificate of participation. The quiz received an overwhelming response.
Workshop on Resume & Job Application Writing
A workshop on Resume & Job Application Writing was organized by on 24th December 2022. CA Kaushal Navalakha, Business System Analyst – Revenue Services, RevGurus Incorporation Pune guided the students on this vital topic. He helped students to prepare the resume and also draft job applications for different positions.
Guest Lecture on Auditing in CIS Environment (EDP & Forensic Audit)
The Guest Lecture on Auditing in CIS Environment (EDP & Forensic Audit) was organized by the Department of Commerce on 26th December, 2022. The speaker of this guiding session was CA Umakant Khadake, General Manager, Cummins. He guided the students on auditing in a Computerised Environment and Forensic Audit by sharing his own audit experiences.
Guest lecture on Uniform Costing and Inter-firm Comparison
A guest lecture on Uniform Costing and Inter-firm Comparison was conducted on 28 December, 2022. CMA Meena Vaidya, Fellow member of the Institute of Cost Accountants of India and Advisor to the Managing Committee of ICAI- Pune Chapter was invited to guide the students. She covered the basics of Uniform costing with small case-lets. She also discussed with the students the role of inter-firm comparison in the industry. She helped students understand the preparation of necessary for implementing uniform costing and inter-firm comparison.
Guidance session on Tax Reforms in India
A guidance session for students on Tax Reforms in India was organised on 25th March, 2023. The resource person discussed in detail about current budget reforms for the year 2023 – 24. In the session various heads of Income, Deductions and Types of ITR were discussed in the session. Further the resource person also explained the benefits of filing ITR. The difference in Pre-GST regime and post GST regime was discussed in detail. Towards the end of the session the meaning of corporate tax and the tax rates for corporates was discussed.
Field Visit to Bombay Stock Exchange
A visit to Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) for the students of Commerce was arranged on 9 May 2023. Students were mesmerized to see the BSE building.During the visit students were informed about the history, growth and advancement of BSE. Also, the historical relevance and importance of the place was discussed. Further the students were informed about the various certification courses offered by BSE Training Institute.
Online seminar on Data Protection and awareness
Dr. Harold D’Costa, President , Cyber Security Corporation, Advisor (Law Enforcement Agencies – Cyber Crime), International Trainer (Judges & Public Prosecutor) was invited to guide the participants on a very crucial topic ‘Data Protectiona and Awareness on 7 October 2021. He made the participants aware about the various cyber threats like Cyber Stalking, Cyber Contraband, Cyber Trespassing, Cyber Laundering, Cyber Vandalism, Cyber Defamation, Cyber Theft, Cyber Terrorism, Cyber Pornography and Cyber Fraud.
Guest Lecture On Cost Audit
A guest lecture on the topic ‘Cost Audit’ was organised on 29 October 2021. CMA Abhay Deodhar was invited as a resource person for this lecture. He guided the participants thoroughly about ‘Cost audit’. His lecture covered various aspects of cost audit like the application of cost audit to the type of companies, Provisions applicable for cost audit as per the Companies Act, 2013 and other acts, appointment of the Cost Auditor, Cost Auditors duties, rights and obligations, cost audit report format and many more.
GST Workshop
A workshop on ‘Goods and Services Tax’ was conducted. CA Sunil Rajpurohit was the guest speaker for this workshop. The workshop focused on the understanding of the direct and indirect taxes, background of the introduction of GST, Components of GST, Registration Process under the GST act, Input tax credit and the output liability. Also the administrative set up with the GST Regime, the legal framework, GST rates applicable and various aspects of GST were covered in the session.
Orientation for Internship Programme at Kirtane & Pandit Associates
The Department of Commerce organized the orientation programme for the students who had enrolled for the internship at Kirtane & Pandit Associates. Assistant Manager – Mr. Chidambar Desai oriented students for the internship starting from 1- 10 February 2022. Different tasks involved in Asset Audit were explained to the students who wanted to enroll for the internship programme.
Guest Lecture on Activity Based Costing
An Interactive Session on Activity Based Costing was arranged on 31 January 2022. This lecture was conducted by CMA Mrs. Meena Vaidya, Fellow member of the Institute of Cost Accountants of India & Advisor to Managing Committee of ICAI-Pune Chapter. She talked about: Concept of ABC (Activity Based Costing), ABC as a powerful tool for measuring performance, uses of ABC, examples of ABC, difference in Traditional and Activity Based Costing and many more aspects.
Guest Lecture on Electronic Data Processing
A guest lecture on ‘Electronic Data Processing’ was organised on 10 and 11 January 2022. CA Sonal Gatagat was invited as the guest speaker for this lecture. She made the students understand the basics of Electronic Data Processing like its concept, uses, advantages and role in the changing business scenario. She mentioned that the role of EDP in recent times has become very important. She helped the students to understand the application of EDP in the varied decisions made by organizations.
4-Day National Level Kaveri Lecture Series
A 4-Day National Level Kaveri Lecture Series was arranged on the theme ‘Industry-Youth Connect’ from 12th Jan to 15th Jan 2022 on online platform. It was inaugurated at the hands of Shri. Kushal Hegde, President – Kannada Sangha, Pune with his gracious presence and address to the participants. Mr. Sudhir Gogate, Executive Director of Indo-Japanese Joint Venture, Hitachi Astemo Fie Pvt Ltd, Pune. He was a Chief Guest of the Inauguration ceremony and addressed the students as a keynote speaker. CA Harsh Agarwal, Director Audit, SRBC and Co was invited as a guest speaker on the topic– ‘Artificial Intelligence in Auditing’. Ms. Deepti Chandrachud, Director – Marketing, Kwality Paints & Coatings Pvt Ltd was invited as a guest speaker to talk on the topic: Entrepreneurship – Today and tomorrow. On the last day, CA Satchidanand Ranade, Founder & Sr. partner of SPJV & Co. Arbitrator on NSE Pune Bench, Ex- Director Pune Stock Exchange was invited as a Guest Speaker for the topic – ‘Management Lessons from Cricket’
National Level Post Budget Talk on What’s for us from Budget 2022
‘National Level Post Budget Talk on What’s for us from Budget 2022’ was organised on 4 February 2022 on zoom platform. This occasion was graced by Shri.Chandrashekhar Tilak Ex-Chief Risk Officer & Executive Vice-President at NSDL E-Governance Infrastructure Ltd. Mr. Tilak explained the concepts of Digital Rupee and Crypto Currency. He briefed about career and growth opportunities in various sectors including Banking, IT, service, Education and many others.
Commerce Horizon – Students’ Club
The Commerce Horizon club works with the objective to create a platform for the students to participate, lead and develop their interests related to Academic and other co-curricular activities. It conducts Commerce Week in which many activities like guest lectures, quiz competition, research paper presentation, idea generation camp, mad adz, student interviews, Management games and many others. These activities have helped students to showcase their talent and skills like leadership, managerial, oratory, team building through participation in the club activities.
Commerce Horizon Week
The Commerce Horizon Week 2022-23 was organised from 6th Oct 2022 to 8th Oct 2022. Various competitions such as Quiz Competition, Poster Competition, Treasure Hunt were conducted for the students of the college on 6th October 2022.. Very remarkable show- ‘Kaveri’s Got Talent’, ‘Business / Product Idea Competition’ and ‘Impromptu Competition’ were organised on 7th October 2022. Around 500 students actively witnessed the Business Fair organised on 8th October 2022 and enjoyed various cuisines. 18 stalls of various self-made food products were arranged by the students, where they sold their items making best possible use of marketing and presentation skills. The winning teams were awarded with the title of ‘Kaveri’s Budding Entrepreneur’.
Guidance Session on Concepts and Practices of 5S and Kaizen
Under Commerce Horizon a session was organized for students on Concepts and Practices of 5S and Kaizen on 11th March 2023, at 9:30 am. The session was presented by renowned resource person Mr. Laxman Mahale, Business Head Mahindra Steel Service Centre Ltd.,Business Head – Electrical Stamping Business & Business Excellence. The session was also graced by the presence of Mentor CMA Abhay Deodhar.
Mr. Mahale while explaining 5S, discussed many industry related examples to help the students understand the applicability of 5S. He further explained the meaning of Kaizen and presented some industry examples to the students. He pointed out that both 5S and Kaizen lead to waste elimination, increase in productivity and continuous improvement.
An Interactive Session on Youth Development
Under Commerce Horizon, an Interactive Session on Youth Development by Dr. Sharad Bhogle was conducted on 24th March 2023. The session was conducted by Dr. Sharad Bhogle, Retired Professor and Head Faculty of Social Sciences, WALMI (Water and Land Management Institute) Aurangabad. The session started with a discussion about three terms Youth, Development and Personality. Then students were guided about the process of Development with an example and showcased the difference between Growth and Development. The resource person then explained to the students about the short form ASK which stands for Attitude, Skills and Knowledge.
Antarmanache Niyojan
A session on Mental Health Antarmanache Niyojan was organized on 16 July 2021. Dr. Shirish Limaye, Retd. HOD , Accountancy, Symbiosis College of Arts and Commerce, Pune was invited as the Resource Person. Dr. Limaye said that ‘take care of what you think, because you receive what you think or what you trust and not what you are eligible for’. While giving guidance about how to increase the trust, he advised to be bold, strong and take all responsibility on your own shoulder.
Balancing Professional Courses and Academics
An interactive session on Balancing Professional Courses and Academics was organised on 19 August 2021. Mr. Devang Katikar, from SYBCom and pursuing CA Final Article Assistant at SRBC & CO LLP ( Ernst & Young) and Ms. Tanmayee Gholap from SYBCom, pursuing CA Final Article, Assistant at PG Bhagwat LLP were the Guest Speakers for the session. Ms. Gholap mentioned that continuous and planned studies, perseverance and focus helped her in passing both groups in one attempt. Mr. Katikar emphasised on the fact that success and failure is part of the process of every competitive or professional exam. He laid stress on the importance of keeping the faith in oneself and having the support from the family members during such examinations.
Awareness Programme on Vacancies in Government Sector in association with Staff Selection Board (SSB), Mumbai
An awareness program in association with SSB, Mumbai was conducted to make the students know about various examinations in Banking Sector and at Central Government on 6 September 2021 on Zoom Platform. The Resource Person Mr. Sukrut Bhushan, Trainer, SSB spoke about the various schemes and also platforms at which the banking examinations are conducted.
Investor Awareness Programme in association with NSDL
The Department of Commerce organized the ‘Investors Awareness Programme’ in association with the National Securities Depository Limited on 24 September, 2021. Mrs. Candelina Rodrigues – Executive Marketing and Mr. Ashish Kant Sinha – MSE, NSDL were the resource persons for this programme. Mrs. Candelina briefed the participants about the securities market and capital market. She helped the participants understand the working of these markets.
Commerce Horizon Week:
The Commerce Horizon Week 2022 was organised from 12 January to 15 January 2022, on a virtual platform. First competition of the event was Indian Stock Market Trivia, a quiz competition held on 12 January 2022. In all 19 Teams (2 participants in each team) participated in the competition. Second Competition held was the PPT Competition on 13 and 14 January 2022. In all 46 participants (12 individual and 14 groups) participated in the competition. The next competition held was Video Making Competition on 14th January, 2022 with the theme of Pune Street Entrepreneurs/ Businesses. On 15 January 2022, Kaveri Entrepreneurs Talk was organized. This event was conducted so as to provide the young entrepreneurs in Kaveri with a platform to showcase their talent and to make them realize the hidden aspects of entrepreneurship in their personality.
Opportunities in Japanese Language
A Guest Lecture on Opportunities in Japanese Language by alumna, Naineeka Rathod, Trainer was conducted on 24 October, 2020. This lecture was planned with a view to create awareness amongst the students about the Japanese language.
Decoding The Law
A Guest Lecture on ‘Decoding The Law’ was conducted on 31 October 2020. CS Aboli Pitre, resource speaker of the session made the students aware about the precautions to be taken while handling and understanding the legal documents which may come up in the day to day life like PAN card, Aadhar Card, Voter’s Id card, etc. . This session has benefited the students to understand the legal aspects of various procedures and the laws related to the same.
Opportunities in Banking Sector
A Seminar on Employment Opportunities in Banking Sector was arranged on 18 December 2020. Sukrut Bhushan, Head of SSB Institute, Mumbai addressed the students on this occasion. He mainly explained the level of preparation needed for the students towards the competitive exams specific to the banking sector. 50 students attended this seminar.
Cyber Law and Security
A Session on Cyber Law and Security was conducted on 19 December 2020. Sugandha Dani, Executive, Quick Heal Foundation was the Guest Speaker for the session. She explained to the students about the common mistakes committed by the youngsters while managing their social media accounts. She also explained about various counter checks necessary while protecting accounts against digital frauds.
Session on Vedic Mathematics
A Session on Vedic Mathematics was arranged on 29 December 2020. Vijay Kulkarni, Founder, Parijat Academy of Vedic Math, Pune took the students to the interesting area of Vedic Mathematics on the occasion of the International Mathematics Day. Mr. Kulkarni explained to participants about the origin of Vedic Mathematics and how it helps in solving examples in Mathematics.
