Faculty Development Program (FDP) on NEP 2020 Implementation for BBA and B.Com (BM) was organized by Kaveri College of Arts, Science and Commerce in Association with Savitribai Phule Pune University on 27th November, 2024. The FDP was organized to understand the syllabus of BBA and B.Com(BM) for 2024 pattern(NEP- 2020) and to discuss effective implementation of syllabus.
The FDP was inaugurated at the hands of Dr. Parag Kalkar-Pro.Vice Chancellor- SPPU. Dr. Yashodhan Mithare, Dean – Faculty of Commerce and Management, SPPU, Dr. Ravindra Vaidya, Chairman-Board of Studies-Business Management (Ad-hoc) SPPU, Mrs. Malati Kalmadi-Secretary, Kannada Sangha Pune, resource persons, Dr. Muckta Karmarkar-Principal-Kaveri College and Dr. Anand Buddhikot, Vice-Principal graced the occasion.
Dr. Muckta Karmarkar, Principal- welcomed the dignitaries and emphasized that the FDP will provide a comprehensive understanding of NEP 2020 and its implications for higher education. The dignitaries were felicitated at the hands of Mrs. Malati Kalmadi- Secretary, Kannada Sangha Pune and Dr. Muckta Karmarkar- Principal, Kaveri College.
Mrs. Malati Kalmadi – Secretary, Kannada Sangha in her speech mentioned that the current education system should be feasible for the masses to understand and perform. Dr. Yashodhan Mithare- Dean- Faculty of Commerce and Management-SPPU focused on promoting extensive use of technology, credits for activities such as curricular, co-curricular and extracurricular activities, opening of IKS Universe etc.
The inaugural address by Chief Guest, Dr. Parag Kalkar – Pro. Vice- Chancellor, SPPU said that there are no hard separations between ‘arts’ and ‘sciences’, between ‘curricular’ and ‘extra- curricular’ activities, between ‘vocational’ and ‘academic streams’, etc. We should partner the students in the teaching learning process.
Technical Sessions-
Session 1- Business Communication Skills
Resource Person : Dr.Mangesh Waghmare -Head of Business Administration, New Arts, Science and Commerce College, Ahmednagar
Dr. Waghmare commenced his session with a quote by Swami Vivekananda “Education is manifestation of perfection already exists in men”. Dr. Waghmare stated that a teacher must take feedback from the students at least once a week to find the gaps in teaching and learning process.
Session 2 – Business Statistics-I
Resource Person : Dr.Rajendra Gurav-Principal, H.V.Desai College, Pune Member- Board of Studies
Dr. Gurav stated that, “Figures tell facts.” “Numbers never lie.” Dr. Gurav explained the importance of the subject of Business Statistics for decision making in today’s world. In the world of copy and paste, it is difficult to put the students into the habit of collecting genuine data and analysing it.
Session 3 – Principles of Finance
Resource Person : Dr. Ganesh Patare-Principal I/C , Marathwada Mitramandal’s College of Commerce, Pune
Dr. Patare discussed the syllabus with the participating faculty members. He the Credit structure. Application of Bloom’s Taxonomy is very essential for the subject.
Session 4 – Principles of Management
Resource Person : Dr. Mangesh Bhopale- Asst. Professor, MAEER’S MIT Arts, Science and Commerce College, Pune
Dr. Bhopale stated that Management is an open-ended subject. This subject, being universal, should be taught from a global perspective and cultural awareness.
Session – 5 – Principles of Marketing
Resource Person : Dr. Deepak Wayal-Asst. Professor-Ness Wadia College of Commerce, Pune
Dr. Wayal stated that the subject is practical and real world based. To effective marketing education is to make it very practical and utilize many real-world examples and case studies.
Session 6 – Principles of Human Resource Management(HRM)
Resource Person : Dr. Vishwas Swami-Principal, ATSS College of Business Studies and Computer Application, Chinchwad, Pune
Dr. Swami explained various challenges faced by a teacher while teaching HRM. Lack of attendance of students, high level of student distraction, less parental involvement, time management to name.
Session 7 – Business Mathematics
Resource Person : Dr. Ramdas Sonawane- Associate Professor, HoD- Mathematics- Ness Wadia College of Commerce, Pune
Dr. Sonawane stated a very concrete finding that ‘Students fear maths’. Group practice, group studies, taking maths quizzes are a few ice breaker methods for fear reduction. Having one to one interaction with students is very important.
Session 8 – Assessment and Evaluation
Resource Person: Dr. Ravindra Vaidya Chairman-Board of Studies-SPPU.
Dr. Vaidya conducted assessment and evaluation of the entire FDP. He briefed about the evaluation pattern expected to university. He stated that NEP is a policy not a rule. Discussion and question answer session took place at the end of FDP. Total 41 faculty members from different colleges of Pune, Sangamner, Baramati, Junnar participated in the FDP.
