Induction Program 23-24 for First Year Students

Kannada Sangha Pune’s Kaveri College of Arts, Science and Commerce organized an Induction program for first year students between 17th and 22nd July, 2023. In this program students were introduced to their new college, professors, curriculum and various activities conducted in the college. Principal Dr. Ashok Agrawal and Vice Principal Dr. Mukta Karmarkar motivated all students on this occasion. Principal Dr. Ashok Agrawal in his speech encouraged students for being proactive and responsible for career, family, society and nation as well. He also motivated all students for their future life. He advised all to be active to prove their own skills and qualities.

All the students visited the spiritual centre of Ramakrishna Math, Pune for an outreach program conducted under Induction Program. The purpose behind this Induction program was to make the future youth generation better by following the values given by Swami Vivekananda. Special lectures on the topic ‘How a Youth should be…’, ‘Instilling Human Values’, ‘Goal Setting’ were organized for the students. President of Ramakrishna Math Pune, Sri Srikantananda Swamiji, Dr. Shirish Limaye and Shri. Prashant Puppal specially guided the students on this occasion and motivated them through their conversation. On this occasion Coordinators of all courses, professors and teachers were present along with students. At the beginning of the program, Dr. Shirish Limaye welcomed Kaveri College and all the students. Prof. Suchismita Mohanty, Coordinator of Arts Department, and Ms.Bhakti Joshirao faculty in commerce introduced the distinguished speakers.

Swamiji told the students to follow the values given by Swami Vivekananda to inspire the youth through his speech. He also said that, in order to be physically and intellectually strong, students should be able to recognize the difference between good and bad and take control of their minds and should be able to achieve their goals with the power of will. He further inspired the students, to do social work by saying that if a person has control over his own mind, then, one can develop a good character on good things. He also talked about the importance of discipline in life with many examples, that students should develop character and follow ethics.

Speaking on the topic of ‘Instilling Human Values’, Dr. Shirish Limaye spoke on the interrelationship between growth – progress – success. He emphasized six important things for a better human life are as follows:

  1. Collect knowledge, not marks.
  2. Collect skills and not degrees.
  3. Collect good friends and not followers.
  4. Invest in your health rather than in wealth.
  5. Collect experiences, not rewards.
  6. Collect your purpose, not the position, Post and power.

Also considering the importance of skills and talents in the current era, He introduced 23 different skills to the students.

Shri Prashant Puppal while speaking on the topic ‘Goal Setting’ named some important books for the students. While setting the goal, students should choose challenging things, also know their passion, choose something based on changing technology, and also create a business through that thing and everyone needs it, he guided them to set their goals. He said that a man should be self-motivated in his own life. A large number of students of the college experienced this spiritual experience and were taught through various incidents from the life of Swami Vivekananda narrated by the leading lecturers.

The students found guidance and directions through these lectures right from the start of the academic year.
