The Department of Commerce has organised a Kaveri Commerce Lecture Series based on a theme, Industry Youth Connect 2025 from 10th of February 2025 to 21st February 2025. The first lecture of the same was conducted on Data Analytics and AI for the AY 2024 – 25 on 10th February 2025.
The event began with the introduction about the lecture series by Dr. Deepa Sathe, HOD, Commerce who explained the students the need for organising such lectures where students could connect with the industry experts. Further Ms. Swathy introduced the resource person CA Anvay Paranjape, who was then felicitated by the Principal Dr. Muckta Karmarkar. CMA Abhay Deodhar Sir in his address encouraged the students to stay updated and also spoke about the fears of being outdated if not updated.
CA Anvay Paranjape [Partner in KNAV Risk Advisory Services (USA)] at the beginning addressed the students about Descriptive, Diagnostic, Predictive and Prescriptive, the four purposes of data analysis. To further simplify he gave an example of Google maps which uses all the four purposes and gives data accordingly. He further spoke about the challenges of data analysis in the accounting field like handling accounting for growing and complex data and How to audit large and complex data during audit. The resource person with his simple but practical life experiences gave students the insights into how they can learn Data Analysis and AI by simply understanding the basics and learning the tools and softwares required. He also spoke about how AI has always been around since the 1960’s and then it was not considered a threat. He gave students a suggestion to use AI according to their intelligence and make it a Rule based AI for themselves. He encouraged the students to develop Data analytics as a skill rather than as a career opportunity as in the near future it will be most crucial from an employment point of view to have those skills along with communication skills and Domain knowledge. He further added that data analytics helps in growing business if the person has Data Understanding, Business Understanding and Process Understanding.
Towards the end students also raised their questions which were answered in the simplest form. This insightful session was attended by 139 students of FY, SY, TY and PG sections.
