National Service Scheme (NSS) has been introduced at Savitribai Phule Pune University since 1969 as a part of the academic programs. National Service Scheme (NSS) has been playing a vital role in enriching the souls and minds of students of the University since long time. The overall objective of NSS is ‘Education and Service’ to the community and by the community. This scheme is under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India and NSS cell is under the Higher and technical education, Govt. of Maharashtra. The NSS unit has been initiated in the college since academic year 2008-09. The Savitribai Phul Pune University has granted N.S.S. unit of 100 students to the College. Under this unit, students get opportunities to serve the society through various activities.
The activities conducted by the college are as follows:
Theme based activities/events:
- Orientation Programme
- International Yoga Day
- Tree plantation’ drive
- Police Mitra duty during Ganesh Festival
- Nirmalya Collection during Ganesh Festival
- Theme based Rallies are conducted on subjects like Kanya Ratna Abhiyan, Swachha Baharat Abhiyan, Cracker free festival etc
- Events based on various social subjects like Petroleum conservation, water harvesting, waste management, Pollution control and cleanliness drives
- Swachha Bharat Abhiayan
- Swachhta Pakhwada (Fortnight)
- Road Safety, HIV AIDS, De-addiction Awareness programs
- No Vehicle Day
- Yuva Saptah
- Blood Donation
- Joy of Giving Week: A ‘Donation Drive’ for celebrating the ‘Joy of Giving Week’ is carried out by the volunteers and students and staff members of the college generously donate articles like clothes, grocery items etc. The donated articles are handed over to charitable and social organizations.
- NSS Special Winter Camp (Camp is organized in a village adopted by the college. During the camp several projects/programmes such as Survey, awareness drives, medical camps, bandhara, tree plantation, cleanliness drive, developing gardens, making drainage system, teaching and interacting with school children, prabhat pheri, highlighting various social and environmental aspects etc by NSS volunteers).
Further, the NSS unit organizes events as per the directions by the NSS Department SPPU.
The selected NSS volunteers can participate in University/State/National/ International NSS camps organized and sponsored by NSS unit.
