The NSS Unit of Kannada Sangha Pune’s Kaveri College of Arts, Science and Commerce, in collaboration with the Forest Department Bhamburda, Pune, organized a Tree Plantation Drive on 12th August 2024 at the ARAI hills. Theme for the tree plantation was “Ek Ped Maa ke Naam”. This initiative aimed to promote environmental sustainability and enhance local green spaces. This drive is part of our ongoing commitment to combat climate change, improve air quality, and support biodiversity.
NSS Program Officer Mr. Nilesh Nemade provided an informative session on environmental conservation, explaining the causes and effects of global temperature rise. In this drive around 130 saplings of various species were planted, including: Jamun Tree, Mango Tree, Variegata (Kanchan Tree), Ficus Religiosa (Pimple Tree) Banyan Tree (Wad), Azadirachta indica (Neem Tree)
During the drive, volunteers experienced the joy of planting trees and gained a deeper appreciation for the importance of not only planting but also nurturing and sustaining them. They recognized that, while modern conveniences often lead to the degradation of natural environments, the health of our planet and future depends on our ability to protect and sustain it. The volunteers expressed their satisfaction and pride in having planted trees with their own hands, reinforcing the program’s message: “Zade Lava Zade Jagva” The event concluded on a positive note, celebrating our collective efforts in an environment that emphasized the harmony between human actions and nature.
Dr. Ashok Agrawal, Executive Director, Academic, Higher Education and Dr. Muckta Karmarkar, Principal I/C of Kaveri College congratulated the students for their efforts. The campaign was conducted under the guidance of the NSS PO Mr. Nilesh Nemade and NSS-APO Mrs.Rashmi Joshi. In all 112 NSS volunteers were part of the tree plantation drive.
