A pre-recorded podcast screening titled “Tariff War: An Economic Crossfire” was organised on the 3rd of September, 2025, for all students of Prof. Dr. Manasi Phadke, Senior Faculty at Symbiosis Institute of Business Management. In the podcast, Dr. Phadke had explained the causes and consequences of tariff wars, focusing on ongoing global trade conflicts and their wider implications.
Dr. Phadke broke down economic theories of protectionism and free trade in a simple, relatable manner. She discussed how major global powers like the U.S. and China have triggered trade tensions through tariff impositions, leading to ripple effects across the world economy. The podcast also examined how such policies affect India’s export competitiveness, especially for smaller enterprises, and highlighted India’s strategic positioning as an emerging market navigating between global trade blocs.
Key economic concepts were linked with real-world examples, such as the U.S.–China tariff war and sector-specific barriers in agriculture, steel, and technology. Dr. Phadke explored how protectionist measures might offer short-term advantages but often hinder long-term economic growth and global integration. She concluded by emphasizing the importance of balanced trade policies that protect domestic interests without disconnecting from global opportunities.
The session successfully achieved its objectives by helping students connect theoretical knowledge with current global issues. It encouraged critical and analytical thinking, encouraged interactive dialogue between faculty and students, and deepened understanding of the economic forces shaping today’s world. Overall, the podcast screening served as a valuable academic experience, bridging textbook concepts with real-world trade dynamics and preparing students to navigate the complexities of global economic policies.
