Department of B.Sc Computer Science has organized a guest lecture on SVD (Singular Value Decomposition) and its application on Wednesday 10th July 2024.The session aimed to understand SVD fundamentals and its applications. Mr.Subhash Darkunde Asst. Prof. in Mathematics, Abasaheb Garware College, Pune was invited as resource person for this session. Dr. Anand Buddhikot Co-ordinator of B.Sc (CS) welcomed and introduced the resource person Mr. Subhash Darkunde.
In his talk, Mr. Subhash covered Foundational Linear Algebra concepts, including Matrix Operations and Eigenvalues, and delved into the components of Singular Value Decomposition (SVD) such as Left Singular Vectors, Singular Values, and Right Singular Vectors. He also explored practical applications of SVD in various fields, including data compression (such as image and text compression), signal processing, and machine learning.
Using a Python application based on SVD, he showed image compression. The session was very interactive. More than 110 students participated enthusiastically. The session was concluded by question-and-answer round in which students interacted with Mr. Subhash Darkunde. The vote of thanks was given by Mr. Tejas Sonawane.
