“Think critically and ask questions to become a civil servant.” Tukaram Jadhav to UPSC aspirants at Kaveri College

The Indian Civil Services as career options have not really caught up in Maharashtra. According to A.L. Bongirwar Committee (October 2016), only 10 percent of national civil services merit list constitutes candidates from Maharashtra every year. In its bid to change the miserable scenario, Student Welfare Unit of Kaveri College of Arts, Science and Commerce had conducted a one day seminar on ‘Preparation of MPSC /UPSC Examination’ in association with the Board of Student Welfare, SPPU.

The seminar was inaugurated by Mr. Tukaram Jadhav, Founder & Director, Unique Academy, Pune in the presence of Mr. B. Baburao, Treasurer, Kannada Sangha Pune, Dr. S. B. Kharosekar, Principal, Ms. Suchismita Mohanty, Vice Principal and Ms. Chitra Alavani, Student Welfare Officer. Dr.  Kharosekar in his welcome speech emphasized on the need of considering civil services as a strong career options for students. He said such seminars are important to bring awareness about UPSC and MPSc exams and their preparations.

In his address Mr. Tukaram Jadhav guided the participants about the myths and reality of the competitive exams and its overall preparation. He informed them about the nature of exams, changed format of the prelims and strategy to prepare for General Studies as well as CSAT. He advised them to think critically and ask questions to understand chosen subjects in depth and develop conceptual clarity. Mr Jadhav also informed the students that self belief and confidence is the key to clear these exams.
Mr. Vikrant Bhosale, Faculty, Study Circle, focused more on the preparations for the exam. He said that to clear UPSC exam students need to first build their base with the 4 pillars namely, language ability, conceptual clarity, factual awareness and emotional and intellectual maturity. Dr. Mrunmayi Kulkarni, Faculty, Study Circle, discussed the exam pattern and passing criteria of MPSC exam. She pointed out that many students fail in English and other regional languages and asked them to not take these subjects lightly. Ms. Supriya Shetty, Frelance Trainer, talked on Group Discussion and Personal Interview.  She said GD/PI are conducted in the final stage of the exam to identify aspirant as a potential officer through his/her overall conduct.
Total 79 participants participated in the seminar from various colleges from Pune like, Sinhagad Arts and Commerce College, St. Mira’s College, Shivrai Pratishthan, Maharashtra College of Commerce, Sudhatai Mandke College and Kaveri College.
