The NSS Unit of Kannada Sangha Pune’s Kaveri College of Arts, Science and Commerce, in collaboration with the Forest Department, Bhamburda, organized a Tree Plantation Drive on 12th August 2025 at Bhamburda Van Parikshetra, near NDA Gate, Chandni Chowk, Pune. The event was conducted under the inspiring theme “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam”, aimed at promoting environmental sustainability and enhancing the green cover in the region.
The program was inaugurated by Mr. Manoj Shahu Barbole, Range Forest Officer, Bhamburda, who guided the students on the importance of afforestation and forest conservation. He personally demonstrated the correct techniques for planting saplings and inspired the volunteers through his valuable insights. His active participation served as a motivating force for the NSS students. Mr. Vishal Yadav, Forest Guard, also extended his wholehearted support to the initiative.
Before the plantation, NSS volunteers actively prepared the site by clearing the grass and digging pits for the saplings. This hands-on preparation helped students understand the effort and care required in nurturing trees.
The event began with an awareness session by NSS Program Officer Mr. Nilesh Nemade, who highlighted the urgent need for environmental conservation in the face of rising global temperatures. He emphasized how individual and community efforts can play a vital role in combating climate change and restoring ecological balance.
During the drive, around 270 saplings of native species were planted, including: Ficus religiosa (Pimple Tree), Ficus benghalensis (Wad Tree), Azadirachta indica (Neem Tree). A total of 147 volunteers enthusiastically participated in the activity. They experienced the joy of tree plantation, reflected on the environmental damage caused by modern lifestyles, and pledged to take conscious steps toward sustainable living.
The event concluded on a positive note, celebrating the harmony between human responsibility and nature’s well-being. Dr. Muckta Karmarkar, Principal, and Dr. Anand Buddhikot, Vice Principal, appreciated the sincere efforts of the volunteers and the NSS Unit.
This Tree Plantation Drive stands as a testament to the college’s ongoing commitment to environmental protection, climate action, and community engagement.
