The Board of Student’s Development, SPPU in association with Women’s Forum at Kaveri College of Arts, Science and Commerce, Pune organised a Workshop on Saksham Nari Surakshit Nari under Nirbhay Kanya Yojana on 27th February 2025 at 9:00 am in the AV Room, 6th Floor. The aim of this workshop was to instil awareness amongst women about various factors such as: to learn to be aware of your surroundings and identify potential threats before they escalate, to teach you how to survive and escape dangerous situations without injury, and to understand what girls aim to achieve, including specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound (SMART) objectives. In line with that, the workshop was also designed to help girls establish methods to monitor self-progress, feel more relaxed and aware of the importance of unwinding, manage stress levels effectively, and as a result – help them cultivate a peaceful state of mind.
The workshop had an impressive lineup of three speakers, each set to deliver a unique and enriching session. Mrs. Leena Gharpure started the proceedings with a comprehensive introduction to the Basics of Self Defence, equipping participants with essential skills and confidence. Next, Mrs. Bhakti Joshirao had an inspiring Session on Unlocking Self Potential, empowering attendees to tap into their inner strengths and abilities. Finally, Ms. Revati Deshmukh guided participants through a rejuvenating Stress Relief Yoga Session, providing practical techniques for managing stress and cultivating overall well-being. Ms. Sakshi Jadhav, SYBSc and NSS student was also felicitated as she was selected in Mumbai police as constable.
Mrs. Leena Gharpure conducted an empowering session on Basics of Self Defense, and was subsequently honored with a felicitation by Principal Dr. Muckta Karmarkar in recognition of her valuable contribution. Towards the beginning of the session featured an engaging activity where participants swapped the roles of the tiger and sheep, highlighting the importance of girls embracing their inner strength and confidence, rather than being passive. The discussion emphasized the need for mental and emotional resilience, and the importance of trusting one’s instincts when faced with uncomfortable situations. By tuning into their 5 senses, individuals can recognize warning signs and take action. The session encouraged participants to speak up and assert themselves, learning how to say ‘no’ and listen to their intuition, remembering that their first instinct is often the correct one. Additionally, practical tools and techniques of self-defense were shared, empowering girls to take control of their safety and well-being.
The Session on Unlocking Self Potential by Mrs. Bhakti Joshirao taught girls how to reach their full potential by believing in themselves. She explained how to plan and achieve success by improving the skills, facing fears, and trying new things. She also advised girls to focus on learning new things outside of the classroom, not just getting a degree. She shared a simple formula for success: dream big, set goals, and take action. Finally, she reminded girls to think about how they can use what they learn in real life, and to make connections between what they know and what they do.
The Session on Stress Relief Yoga by Ms. Revati Deshmukh focused on how to reduce stress and feel calm. To honour her valuable insights, she was felicitated by Vice Principal and SDO Dr. Anand Buddhikot. The resource person suggested girls to start by taking just 5 minutes each day to sit quietly and relax. She further added that the girls don’t need to meditate right away but rather just focus on being still. According to the speaker meditation is a way to connect with yourself and calm your mind. The speaker asked the girls to try doing something they enjoy, like a hobby which will help them in releasing stress. Make time for activities that bring you joy and help you unwind, remember that what you eat can affect your stress levels, so try to avoid packaged foods and focus on a healthy daily diet were the suggestions given to girls by the speaker.
The workshop was attended by more than 80 girl students from FY, SY and TY of various courses. Mrs. Sonali Kadam was the compere of the entire program while Mrs. Bhakti Joshirao, Chairperson Women’s Forum proposed the Vote of thanks for the Workshop.
