Curricular and Co-curricular Activities

Induction Programme

The commencement of academic session begins with week-long Induction Programme. During the programme, freshers are introduced to various aspects related to teaching-learning process at the college viz. the course structure, evaluation pattern, committees working for students’ progression and about several curricular, co-curricular and extra-curricular activities. Motivating lecture sessions are also part of the induction programme.

Bridging Sessions

At the beginning of every academic year, students of Second and Third Year are provided with intense bridging lecture sessions on their respective specialization subjects. The initial 6 days sessions are designed exclusively to bridge the knowledge gap related to the subjects of specialisation.

Continuous Internal Evaluation

As a part of Continuous Internal Evaluation (CIE), students are provided with several types of assessment like – internal written examination, assignments, presentations, viva etc. With the objective of self-learning, notes making and self-reliance, the assignments are allotted to students. These also help them to have concept clarity and be better prepared for continuous assessment. Presentations help them to have proper understanding with command over the subject.

Online Courses

In order to develop interest in independent learning and enhancing employability quotient, students are made aware about plethora of online courses that are available on MOOC portals like SWAYAM-NPTEL, Coursera etc. The students can take up these courses according to their interest areas. The college has a Swayam Local Chapter.

Workshops/ Activities/ Guest Lectures

In order to engage students in a productive learning environment many classroom activities, guest lectures, workshops, conferences are organised throughout one academic year. Over the time period, many activities have been conducted by the Faculty of Arts:

Kaveri Arts Festival

In order to help the students engage in creative activities, provide platform to students to showcase their talents and to enable students to acquire various soft skills required to conduct events, Kaveri Arts Festival is being organised since 2020. Several activities like –

  • Do It Yourself activities like – Writer’s Den, Blind Fold Challenge, Mock Stock, Poster competitions on Trends in Literature, Feelings and Emotions, Economic Growth and Sustainability and many more are conducted every year.

Kaveri Film Festival

The Kaveri Film Festival was started in 2015-16 as an initiative to make students understand and appreciate world cinema and thereby encourage learning of finer nuances of the creative process. In addition, the film festival also aims to motivate students to learn life lessons from films.

Over the years, films like A Beautiful Mind, Jobs, Cast Away, To Sir With Love, The Shawshank Redemption, The Diary of Anne Frank, Shutter Island and Zootopia, Trapped, Dead Poets Society, The Big Short, The King’s Speech, Black Swan, The Miracle Worker and Gafla, Samvidhaan – The Making of Indian Constitution, The Elephant Whisperers have been showcased.

 

World Mental Health Day

The World Mental Health Day is celebrated every year with the aim of raising awareness and spreading education about mental health issues across the globe. In the interest of nurturing and nourishing mental health, the Department of Psychology of the college celebrates the day with number of activities primarily led by students. Those include poetry recitation, singing, discussion on mental disorders namely depression, anxiety, stress and suicide, deliberation on Yoga, Yogic Lifestyle and Meditation, Stress Burster activities, Flash Cards, Happiest Memory Game, Mimic the Conductor, Sub-modality Shift Exercise etc. Students deliberate on critical issues related to mental health through discussion, paintings, self-composed poetry etc.

Club Activities

KAVERI KAUTILYAS

The activities of Kaveri Kautilyas, the Economics Club of the college include various components such as Newsflash presentations, quizzes, taboo and impromptu talk on topics like corruption, financial literacy, population explosion, Goods and Services Tax, Eco Tourism, discussion on geopolitical scenario surrounding the oil and gas trade in the world in the light of Russia war and European sanctions, European energy crisis and many important issues related to current affairs across the globe have been conducted during different sessions. As a part of the activity under the club, visits to places of importance like Reserve Bank of India College of Agriculture Banking, Pune etc. are also arranged.

In the past, many activities like PPT Presentations on topics like Land Acquisition Act, Corporate Re-structuring, Goods and Services Tax (GST), Greece Crisis, Bitcoin, Make in India, Banking and Insurance Sector, Listing Agreement etc. have been made by the students. Under the Newsflash activity, many topics of importance like Brexit, Olympic Games and Demonetization, China Stock Market Crisis, Paris attack etc. have been discussed. Under the Vyakti Vishesh’ section, presentations and discussions on eminent personalities namely Swami Vivekanand, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Vishwanathan Anand, Narayan Murthy etc. have been undertaken. Under The Guru’ section, presentations and discussions on the life and lessons from the pioneers in the field of Economics namely, Kautilya, Adam Smith, Alfred Marshal, T.L. Malthus, etc. have been made.

Apart from these, in order to make students develop life skills, activities like quiz, taboo and impromptu talk, Dumb-Charades on economics terms, Mock Stock, Quick Bites, Crosswords, Riddles etc. are conducted. The club in association with the Department of Economics has conducted visits to Reserve Bank of India College of Agriculture Banking, Pune and Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics, Pune. As a part of the activity the members of the club went to watch a Bollywood Film ‘The Accidental Prime Minister’.

KOLORS OF KAVERI

The activities of Kolors of Kaveri, the Arts Club of the college include Quiz, Pictionary, ‘Guess the Celebrity’ – wherein students guess the fictional characters in books, films and web series, Zip-Zam-Zoom, mehfil of self-composed poetry, Psych Corner, team building activity called ‘Build a Plot’, ‘Facing Failures’ under ‘K-Talks’, an initiative wherein students talk about issues related to the youth, several workshops where the resource persons are the students themselves.

Since its establishment in 2014, this club has given platform to students to showcase their talents, in different art forms such as music, dance, painting, public-speaking, photography among others. Various activities have been conducted under the club namely Crafts Workshop, Musical Afternoon, Vocabulary Quiz, Pictionary, Dumb-Charades, Origami workshop, Entertainment Quiz, workshop on Graphology, How to Conduct Yourself, etc. Apart from this, sharing of experience of a students’ visit to Anandwan, ashram was also arranged. In addition to this, short film screenings on films like ‘Ahalya’, Japanese animated movie ‘Princess Mononoke’, ‘Inner Workings’ and ‘Kriti’ have helped the students to appreciate the short film genre.

Departmental Visits

All three departments, under Faculty of Arts, conduct field visit with the objective of providing students practical exposure to learn aspects related to their domain knowledge.

In the academic year 2022-23, the Department of English arranged a field visit to Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune. The main objective of this visit was to give students a brief introduction of FTII and its activities and make them aware about the career opportunities in Film Making, Television Production and Cinematography etc. Students from various courses joined this visit to have a thrilling experience behind the cameras. FTII is recognized as a center for excellence in audio visual media across the world and one of the best film institutes in India. Students were taken to the ‘Central Camera Store’, where they were given a short historical introduction of vintage camera and they also experienced the classic angels of vintage and digital cameras. Students visited the Screenplay and Film Editing Department, where they learned how sound and scene editing happen in films. In the line students visited V. Shantaram Point, Television Wing. Students were briefed about the courses which FTII runs in the campus. The key takeaways of the visit were that students became aware about the career opportunities in the world of film making and its different areas such as editing, screenplay writing, cinematography etc. In the past visits to ELTIS, Pune and other places of relevance have also taken place.

 

In the academic year 2022-23, the Department of Economics organised a field visit to Reserve Bank of India, College of Agricultural Banking, Pune. Students were provided with an interactive session conducted by Mr. Santosh Kumar Pandey, DGM & Faculty, RBI, CAB, Pune, where he explained in simple language the functioning of the RBI. Students asked lot of questions and got their doubts clarified. He also motivated students to join the RBI which can be a very lucrative career for them. It was really a very informative session.

Students visited the Financial Literacy Centre and RBI Archives. Mr. Amol Gade, Asst. Manager, RBI Achieves talked about the importance of preserving all important documents as they act as reference material for future planning and research. He also informed about the measures taken to preserve the documents. Students were enriched viewing the displays at the Archives. They were then addressed by Mr. Rajib Lochan Sahoo, GM, RBI Achieves. His address was followed by screening of a short film on the importance and functioning of the RBI Archives. Thus, the students got a witness the glimpse on role of RBI in supporting the economy of our country as well as the importance of archiving the documents.

Previously, different batches of students have visited RBI CAB, Pune, GIPE, Pune, NISM, Navi Mumbai etc.

In the academic year 2022-23, the Department of Psychology arranged a visit to Golden Age Palliative Care Center, Narhe, Pune. The session started with briefing about the basic running of the center by the staff members and the types of disorder categories prevalent. The students got to interact with the patients who were there in the in-patient clinic. They were also given some details about the routine of these patients with some case history about each of them. The students had a great learning experience at the centre, with some wisdom absorbed in terms of handling such clients with sheer patience and acceptance.

In the past visits to Schizophrenia Awareness Association (SAA), Pune several times and to Practical Life Skills Farm, Baner, Pune have also taken place.
