Course Structure

Eligibility

The college follows the eligibility norms prescribed by the University. As per University guidelines, the B.A. Degree Course will consist of three years.

  1. No candidate shall be admitted to enter upon the First Year of B.A. Course unless he has passed the Higher Secondary School Certificate Examination of the Maharashtra State Board of Higher Secondary Education or an equivalent examination of any other Statutory Board or University with English as a passing subject.
  2. No candidate shall be admitted to the annual examination of the First Year unless he has satisfactorily kept two terms for the course at the college affiliated to the University.
  3. No candidate shall be admitted to the annual examination of the Second Year B.A. unless he/she has kept two terms satisfactorily for the same at the college affiliated to the University.
  4. No candidate shall be admitted to Third Year examination of the B.A. course unless he/she has passed in all the papers at the First Year B.A. Examination and has satisfactorily kept the term for the Second Year and also two terms for the Third Year of B.A.

The student joining the First Year (FY) B.A. Course shall opt for six subjects as follows:

Compulsory Subjects

  1. Compulsory English
  2. Optional English
  3. Economics
  4. Psychology
  5. History

Any 1 subject from Marathi or German or French
In addition to 6 subjects, Physical Education and Democracy, Election and Governance are compulsory at FY level.

In the Second Year, the student shall decide whether he/she wants to study for the B.A. (General) or the B.A. (Special) Degree. The college offers B.A. Special Degree.

The student studying for the B.A. (Special) Degree shall study the following subjects in the Second Year:

  1. Compulsory English
  2. (2-4) One paper each at General level of the three subjects chosen out of the five subjects offered in the First Year.
  3. (5-6) Two papers at Special level of one subject the chosen as a Special Subject out of the three subjects offered at General level.

The student studying for the B.A. (Special) Degree shall study the following subjects in the Third Year:

  1. Compulsory English
  2. (2-4) One Paper each at General Level of the three subjects offered in the Second Year.
  3. (5-6) Two Papers at the Special level of the subject chosen as a Special subject in the Second Year.

Normally, students are not allowed to change the subject at the second or third year offered by him at the first year.

However, as a very special case, a student may be allowed to offer a special subject at the Second Year, even though he/she may not have offered the same at the first year. In such case he/she should have passed his/her first examination in all the papers and he/she will have to complete the first year paper in that new subject at the second year before he/she goes to the third year. No change of subject will be allowed at the Third Year.

Choice Based Credit System (CBCS)

In a bid to fine tune the Indian education system to the global standards and practices, Credit-Grade based performance and assessment system was implemented in June 2019 for Under Graduate Programmes (UG) under the faculty of Humanities, Savitribai Phule Pune University, Pune.

First Year Examination Pattern
Semester Written Exam for 70 Marks ——– min 28 marks for passing
Internal Evaluation for 30 Marks ——— min12 marks for passing
Passing in individual exam is mandatory

Credit System Pattern

Sem I : 3 Credits * 6 Subjects = 18 Credits
Sem II : 3 Credits * 6 Subjects = 18 Credits

S.Y.B.A.
Sem III : 4 Credits * 6 Subjects = 24 Credits
Sem IV : 4 Credits * 6 Subjects = 24 Credits

T.Y.B.A. 132 CREDITS
SemV : 4 Credits * 6 Subjects = 24 Credits
Sem VI : 4 Credits * 6 Subjects = 24 Credits

PASSING IN EACH SUBJECT WILL GIVE CREDITS
EXTRA-CURRICULAR CREDITS
(Phy. Edu., EVA, on line courses etc. ) 8 CREDITS

TOTAL = 140 CREDITS at the end of Third Year. Total Credits will be calculated in CGPA and then Class will be declared
